Health

Richland County offers employees and their dependents the option of two medical health plans. The Medical Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) allows employees to select between BCBS network providers and other healthcare providers at the time of service. The medical provider of the PPO network is nationwide and includes many physicians, hospitals and other healthcare practitioners. Most medical services can be covered after an annual deductible is met.

Dental

Richland County offers dental insurance. Our dental plan allows you the flexibility to choose your dentist.

Retirement

Eligible employees are required to participate in either the South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) or the Police Officer Retirement System (PORS), which are define benefits programs administered by a division of the State Budget and Control Board. Under both plans, the employees’ contribution is 6.5% of their salary; Richland County’s contribution is 9.24% under SCRS and 10.65% under the PORS plan. Employees are eligible for full retirement after 28 years of service, or at age 65 and 5 years of service under SCRS, and after 25 years of service, or age 55 and 5 years of service, under the PORS plan.

Vacation Leave

Each eligible new employee accrues 10 paid vacation days each year. They may be used at the discretion of the employee with the approval of your department head. An employee may carry over from one year to the next no more than 45 days of annual leave. After an employee has completed ten continuous years of employment, the employee will start to accrue 15 days of paid vacation days. After completing twenty years of continuous employment an employee will accrue 20 days of paid vacation leave.

Sick Leave

Each eligible new employee accrues 12 days of paid sick leave per year, to be used in the event of a personal or family illness. This leave is considered a privilege, not a right, granted by Richland County. You may carry over from one year to the next, a maximum amount of 90 days of sick leave.

Paid Holidays

Each year eligible employees are entitled to eleven (11) paid holidays per year.
